A Free Mind In A Free World

image

Photo: Pinterest

Nothing is sweeter than a young mind with an old spirit,
The young at heart,
The elderly wise men and women,
Children with the “free mind” syndrome have it best in this free world.

In this free world,
Sometimes feelings can get locked away,
Sometimes the depths of the soul can haunt you,
But when the spirit is troubled,
Your thoughts automatically develop a voice,
The whisper in the day,
The cries inside at night,
Your inner voice shouting positive messages is what turns day to night.
And when night falls,
Your free mind is at rest,
In a deep slumber,
Because without rest,
It can’t be at its best,
You’ve passed the test,
To gain a free mind in a free world.

Life As An Afro-American

image

Photo: Pinterest

In the Community

Urban life, the hustle and bustle, loud cars, poverty, bus rides, girls jump roping and double dutching. Liquor stores on almost every corner, merchandise marked up, we can hardly afford to buy. Drug houses near schools, who can live with this? We do. This is the life of an Afro-American “in the community.”

In The News

We are doing good things. New small businesses being created. Adult and adolescents receive achievement awards. On the other hand, bad things are happening too. In the news, babies are being killed by firearms, afro-american females have gone missing, gang and turf wars are happening. Police shootings claim black lives. Racism within a race is the backdrop of everyday life. This is the life of an Afro-American “in the news.”

Within A Workforce

Disparate treatment. Discriminated against during the hiring process. Sexual harassment lawsuits. Not enough entry level jobs for those graduating from college in their industry. Overachievers. Underachievers. The list goes on. This is the life of an Afro-American “within the workforce.”

In College

Affirmative action. Utilizing scholarships to attend college. Working several jobs to help pay for college. Excelling in certain work industries. Student loans become a burden. This is the life of an Afro-American “in college.”

The everyday life of an Afro-American is challenging, but we overcome those challenges. We face oppression, depression, and other mental and spiritual anguish. Yet, we persevere through the toughest times. The “family unit” is what we are known for. Being family oriented within our households is a goal for some of us. Because whatever doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. It’s just as simple as that. Whether things are good or bad in any area of our lives, we continue on through the struggle. “The Struggle” is the key phrase here and is one most of us refuse to let be our sum total in this life.

Erase The Hate Campaign

image

Photo: Pinterest

You dislike me because of the color of my skin,
Not knowing who I am within,
A bonus I am to the world,
A role model for the shades of every boy and girl.

You dislike me because of my heritage,
You seek to oppress with your live campaign for “racism,”
I fight back with my “erase the hate” campaign,
You stereotype what you don’t understand,
God made us all brilliant and unique,
Every free and enslaved woman and man.

You seek to devastate,
But I’m here to help erase what seems like a lifetime of hate,
Superior we all are,
Like the dizzy clouds in the sky and glistening stars.

Erase the hate,
My poetry of freedom is irate,
Racism doesn’t need to have a place in this world,
Role models exist in every race for every boy and girl.

What I seek to add to this world I shall find,
My voice, my words, imagery I display remains kind,
With each piece of writing produced, I seek to erase hate,
My words, my depictions, my perceptions of kindness are irate,
Love all,
Erase the hate and answer the call.
Act now.

My Thoughts About, BREXIT

image

My thoughts about Brexit…well thinking about Brexit is quite frightening. Although the start of it all leads back to the UK, but the lasting affect could be felt by us all. The way we do business depends on trade and import. Being a part of this is every countries way of life, bringing hope to its economy which profits from trade and imports increases capital for businesses which is also used to create new jobs for citizens. Brexit not only threatens this, but the stock market as well. The list goes on.

My angle of this story is to ask these questions…how will this affect the poor, the middle class, start-up businesses, small businesses, let alone, the entire world? No one knows exactly, but one can only imagine. From a business perspective, it’s definitely going to change the way we do business. Instead of competing with our competitors, we might have to walk hand and hand to survive such a global disaster. Our duties would be to build business relationships and also share key information with our competitors to sustain our way of life as small business men and women. We would have to be proactive in our communities, reaching out to those who may be less fortunate. We will most definitely have to unite if this scary word Brextin happens.

The Task Of Writers In The Brextin Crisis

It would be heart wrenching to people from different countries if the Brextin crisis does happen. Panic, fear, depression, and other feelings would be felt by us as a whole. The task of any writer from any genre or area of writing would be to uplift nations through our writings. Screen writers, entertain and allow individuals a way to escape the very thing that’s in front of them through their imagination. Journalists, research and report the good and bad details of Brextin, but consider the method you use to convey the information. Fiction and Indie authors, create books that may describe the Brextin crisis through words and the best imagery around. Make readers imagination go wild, but in a good way. Bloggers, do what you know best, write about your own life experiences, providing your own testimony on how you are dealing with the crisis. We all must unite as authors. Because this great big world may rely on us mostly for a way to escape their own circumstances. I pray that Brextin doesn’t happen. Lord knows I do. But if it does, everyone has to come to grips with the roles they may have to play in the Brextin crisis. We must stand together.

Childhood Tall Tales: Image

image

I’m 12,
Mature and impressionable,
I’m not like most children my age,
I see the world with adult eyes.
You ask,
“What do I mean by that?”
I’ve been teased in school. Spirit broken down on a daily basis by those who have a fear of what I represent,
They see confidence, a little girl who is forced to mature on the adult level in order to deal with the brutality of self-image destruction by others,
Be it by little girl or boy,
Be it adult,
I have to deal.

What did you expect to read from these pages?
A fictional story about my life?
No. This is non-fiction which I am all about at the rightful age of 12.
I’m not caught up in fairy tales, monster dreams, or anything to do with playtime,
Why?
Because I’ve been robbed of my innocence all because I’m a beautiful flower that people choose to refer to as ugly.
From my big nose,
To my full lips,
To my nappy hair,
I’m a 12 year old caught up in image against my own free will.

Who do I blame for this?
The adults,
From magazines depicting skinny beautiful models with beautiful hair, beautiful lips, perfect noses,
To the exercise gurus who say the average waistline should be “28 inches”,
To the adults that say I will be nothing in my tomorrow because I don’t want to be what they think I should be,
Empty.

I’m 12,
And I’ve been humiliated,
My pain runs deep,
Deeper than the bottom of the ocean,
I just want to scream!
How can people be so cruel?

I don’t want to blame parents for their child beating my spirit down at the end of every class hour.
With some horrific words that eat away slowly at my soul,
Because, be it child or adult,
You still have a choice in the matter.

Image,
Why are my looks so important to everyone else, except me?
See what you’ve done adults?
You’ve confused me with your media race,
From your self-absorbed ads about happiness coming if I get involved in your campaign,
When I’m living as an adult at 12 in sadness,

But I have a grown up mind,
I don’t blame God for this,
Not at all,
Human beings have choices and the free will to do the right thing,
For instance,
In this case,
Stop telling tall tales,

Again,
I say,
I know you thought this would be a child’s storybook,
Filled with characters that you can imagine being,
But instead,
You get me.

I don’t know if it makes you happy or not,
To be in the midst with a 12 year old who is totally against the growing campaign that is going on,
What society believes to be true,
No,
You get a 12 year old who chooses to end her thoughts about the negative thoughts and actions of self-made individuals who poisoned half the world’s minds with their narrow-minded opinions.

My testimony stops here.

I’m 37,
A strong woman,
A bipolar survivor,
A mother,
A college graduate,
An author before business owner,
An independent thinking woman who has now set her own standards for what her image should depict to others,
A kindred spirit, fearless,
Encouraging others who have gone through the same,
Don’t ever be afraid to grow up against the odds,
Your spirit is always worthy of fighting for.

Advertising Bridges: Facebook vs Twitter

image

I knew nothing about Facebook during my college years, although I had signed up for an account upon graduation, September 2009. Alumni and my high school classes were welcomed and accepted as my friends on Facebook. What I’ve come to know about Facebook with having such an account was that it gave me the freedom to personalize and customize it to my liking and that is exactly what I did. However, I really didn’t learn all the many ways I could use Facebook until I became an eBay Seller in late 2009. During late 2009, I learned how to advertise for my business using all features of the thriving advertising monster. A gentle monster. How did I do it?

Although I informed some of my friends that I was starting a business and a few of them recommended that I sign up for a business account, against their better judgment, I kept my personal account. Why did I do that? Simply because I put myself in the consumer shoes and I asked myself the question of the hour….who wants to buy from someone they know nothing about and who only wants to sell to them? I’ve never had that kind of business mindset. I wanted to offer my customers good quality products, creating value for my products was at the top of the list. Letting my potential customers get to know me was what I set out to do with my personal account.

So I entered the world of advertising with Facebook. For starters, I started a blog on WordPress and connected my Facebook account to it so that all of my friends and anyone else for that matter that stumbled upon my page could see exactly what I was doing on WordPress for my business. Next, I posted inspirational statuses daily, being the person that I am, I seek to encourage others as well, forgetting about selling my products for a moment, but creating value for my customers was my sole purpose when I used the post feature. Sharing…never used this feature, but others shared my posts which produced what I always wanted, value for my mindset, innovative ideas, and products for which I was selling. Acceptance for who I was as a person was what I was after. My potential customers were added to my friends list.

The Start Of Big Business In 2009 With Twitter

It was love at first sight with my twitter fans. I say that in the quirkiest kind of way. My followers on Twitter loved the idea that I was not a business owner who had the sell! sell! sell! personality and attitude that most business owners have on Twitter. I was often a part of business conversations, political conversations, and inspirational conversations. The features that I used to advertise myself and my business were tweeting, retweeting, quoting tweets, liking pictures, liking people and businesses who had some things in common with me, but I often searched outside of these kinds of networks to see who else was out there that I could learn from or make a difference in their life some type of way, bringing positive results to the forefront for all parties involved. Needless to say, I was in the learn! learn! learn! mode on Twitter all of the time.

When I finally decided to advertise what my business was about and what products I was selling on eBay, my followers increased immediately. I had the backings and support from different people from all walks of life. Most of my customers on eBay came straight from Twitter. So who do I recognize as the leader of advertising between Facebook and Twitter? Well, it still all depends on what your marketing plans are for your business. So both companies are winners in my book. But let’s take a closer look at Facebook and Twitter’s marketing strategies which have made both companies successful.

image

Facebook And Twitter’s Marketing Strategies

How is Facebook marketing to its users? Branding is number one.Whether you’re trying to bring traffic to a website or want to increase sales, why not utilize branding as one of your marketing efforts? Facebook does this everyday. Piggy back off this strategy because it has made Facebook well known today. Part of the branding set up includes following. The amount of followers you have for your business enhances your brand, sending the message to consumers or businesses outside of your network about who you are and what your company stands for.

Leverage the existing traffic to your site: You can do this by adding a Facebook widget that leads to your business profile page on Facebook, be it a personal account or a business account. How you leverage the existing traffic to your site depends on your branding efforts. Using email sign-up as a marketing tool to display your fan page url is another marketing strategy. We all use this strategy with both Facebook personal and business accounts.

Sending out mass emails to let your customers know what you’re doing is a guaranteed method to increase sales and traffic to your site. If you have a storefront, promote your Facebook page by giving out fliers and business cards when potential customers and customers visit your store. Enhancement of the brand with a storefront starts here. There are perks of having a storefront business to offset your online business. You get people in the know with your offline presence which some consumers still prefer these days even though e-commerce has evolved and has taken business owners to the next level in their business. These are just a few marketing strategies that are useful that Facebook is doing ( Roel Manarang).

image

Twitter’s overall marketing strategy is to create and promote compelling content that will be useful to its users. Political views seems to be what rocks twitter users boats. Conversations about political standpoints open up other conversations such as likes or dislikes about certain topics, how-to-lessons, and so on. One cannot argue that the Marketing Strategy of Twitter is easier to comprehend and understand than those of Facebook. Remember, it all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish with your advertising campaign for your business in making the decision on which will work better for you. The whole point of advertising is making a connection with people who wish to add to your network, be it personal or on a business level. What can threaten the success of your online business is the amount of fake profiles and companies that seek to steal and phish for personal information. Be safe. Research. Be in the know. Stay informed on how you can protect your business and consumers.

Evening Quote: Surrender

image

Surrender,
To surrender means to give up the past, the in the meantime actions and behaviors, and our negative way of thinking for something new and unfamiliar that may very well challenge us physically, mentally, and emotionally. Negative way of thinking?

For instance,
if you find yourself constantly thinking about failure when you attempt to set out to do anything, such as thinking something may go wrong constantly, then you have a negative way of thinking.

You may have looked failure right in the eye and made the decision to surrender to it, but a transformation can only happen if you are willing to let go. It’s all about a let-go process. Giving up is hard. And doing something new
And developing a new way of thinking that may make you feel less confident because you’re not quite used to the idea just yet about persevering and moving forward is quite normal.

If you believe,
If you have a vision,
If you have a dream, you can make things happen by surrendering and showing acceptance for where you are in the here and now so that you can develop short term and long term goals that are tangible in order to get results that will improve your life. However, a true transformation can only happen if you surrender spiritually as well. This is where changing for the better becomes a reality, your transformation.

Coffee House Chronicles: The 3 Senses

image

No one can truly live in this world without the 3 senses that makes all the difference on where you end up in life. The 3 senses are:

street smarts- to survive in communities and with daily trials that make it difficult to live in this world at times.

common sense- having the natural ability to put things together. Diving deep into unfamiliar territories.

book sense- needed in order to be the best you can be in this life. Where goals are achieved; balance of life events and growth follows.

The 3 senses are not superficial. They are actual. Believe me…I know. However, you can’t become a master craftsman of all of them if you don’t openly use all 3 senses. No one is greater than the other.

Hobo The Original: Hobos Making A Comeback This Season

image

About 5 years ago when my distribution business was up and running on eBay, I searched and I researched active listings, completed listings, starting bid prices, and fixed prices, and found the sell of hobo handbags not to be profitable on eBay.  For some reason, the hobo bag was not as popular with women then. But today, hobo bags such as the satchel are what us big city girls carry when we’re on the go. We fit our entire life in these enormous handbags, some medium, but mostly oversized handbags are desirable for this specific purpose. From driver’s licenses to our kids doctor appointment cards, and everything in between, seem to fit into these bags with ease. Today, Hobo The Original has become more famous for being a major cost savings supplier of the hobo.

image

About Hobo The Original

Hobo was founded in 1991, in Annapolis, Maryland by a woman named, Toni Ray. Could you even imagine that some of the big corporate companies were founded at such places as the dining room table? Yes, the company had Ms. Toni to thank for for her first creations of unique handcrafted leather accessories that has made the company part of the starting lineup for the comeback of hobo bags. She got her start in a Washington, D.C. store.

image

The Journey To The Top

Ms. Toni desired to launch her own brand so much that she cashed in her life savings and headed to New York with her daughter, Koren Ray, and future son-in-law, David Brewer, to showcase the very first ever hobo handbag collection.

For 23 years and to the present day, Hobo The Original has come a long way from its beginning days at a dining room table. The brand still utilizes its original design plan in order to make durable hobo bags they are known for creating. Toni along with her daughter’s stylish ideas for design of the handbag is still part of the brand’s image that is the driving force to remain the leading manufacturer of hobos.

image

What Other Hobo Handbag Companies Are Out There?

Although Hobo The Original is the leader and the trusted brand for the manufacture of these stylish bags, there are other companies out there that have followed in their footsteps with the sell of hobo bags. Here is a list of such companies:

Chanel
Prada
Gucci
Burberry
Michael Kors Corporation
Christian Dior S.A.
Yves Saint Laurent
Marc Jacobs
HermeĀ“s
Coach, Inc.
Kate Spade
eBags
Bloomingdales
Jimmy Choo Ltd
Givenchy
Versace

Styles And Prices For Hobo Bags

As the leader in Hobo handbags, Hobo The Original has taken the handbag nation to new heights with its start at a dining room table. This market will surely grow in the coming years.
